Aureliano Toso Biography

Toso Aureliano (Murano, 1884-1979) Aureliano Toso is an Italian designer. In 1938 his family's glass factory was founded and in the XXII edition of the Biennale (1942) his first experiments with bands of contrasting colors and thick glass with polychrome shades appeared. In 1948 Aureliano created one of his most important pieces "The Magician's Bottle", which was then exhibited at the Historical Exhibition of Muranese Glass and at the 1952 Biennale. From 1946 to 1960 Dino Martens created unique pieces for the glassworks, in which the techniques traditional glass techniques were combined by the artist with new polychromes and particular asymmetries. The owner made considerable means available to Aureliano and allowed him to collaborate with important masters such as Aldo Bon "Polo", Mario Zanetti, Silvano Simioni. The Vetreria participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad, obtaining several awards including the gold medal in 1951 at the Milan Triennale and collaborating with Italian and foreign artists, such as Seibezzi, Bergamini, Le Witt.
