Traversi Gaspare (Naples, 1722 - Rome, 1769) There is no certain information regarding his biography, but he most likely trained under Francesco Solimena, approaching the demands of Baroque naturalism. His figures are characterized by strong chiaroscuro contrasts. His first certain and dated work is the Crucifixion of 1748 and 1749. Traversi painted three canvases for the church of Santa Maria dell'Aiuto in Naples, in which the influence of Solimena's painting and his interest in painting can be seen baroque. In 1752 he created the six canvases in Rome for the church of San Crisogono and between 1753 and 1758 he created the series of paintings for the church of Santa Maria di Monte Oliveto near Parma, created following the iconographic program dictated by the client Fra' Raffaello Rossi . Traversi created paintings with scenes depicting the bourgeois society of the time.
