Giacomo Trecourt was born in Bergamo in 1812. From an early age he showed a strong inclination for drawing. In 1828 he began to attend the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, where he had Giuseppe Diotti as his teacher. Already after the first academic exhibitions, Trecourt received many public and private commissions. In 1839 he was appointed Honorary Member of the Brera Academy, while three years later he was entrusted with the direction of the Pavia School of Painting. Due to his teaching commitments in Pavia, he devoted less time to large canvases and concentrated more on portrait productions. However, he continued to exhibit and to be interested in teaching with great passion. Unfortunately, paralysis struck him in 1878, forcing him to abandon his post in Pavia, where he died in 1882.
