Gerolamo Troppa (Rocchette, 1636 - Rome, 1706) Gerolamo Troppa was an Italian painter of seventeenth-century Rome. He always had a predilection for chiaroscuro contrasts with a strong naturalistic matrix, far from the dominant tendencies of Bernini's Baroque and Maratto's classicist Baroque. For an initial period he was a follower of Giovan Battista Gaulli and was the favorite painter of Duce Federico Cesarini, who commissioned many works from him. He was an original artist, as he is not present among the members of the Accademia di San Luca and the Congregation of the Virtuosi of the Pantheon and is also absent from all the "Lives" written by the main biographers of the time.
