Paul-Désiré Trouillebert, born in Paris in 1829, studied at the École des beaux-arts in Paris with Ernest Hébert and Charles Jalabert, where he deepened his passion for art. Trouillebert concentrated on genre and landscape painting but was also considered a master in the art of the "nude". He was one of the best known members of the Barbizon School. He drew inspiration from wild landscapes, paintings "en plein air" and often used the orientalist style to set his nude paintings. He made his debut at the "Salon" in 1865 with a portrait and exhibited his works continuously, gaining great popularity. Trouillebert had two fixed ateliers and one mobile, the first in Paris, the second in Candes-Saint-Martin, and then on a boat with which he traveled along the Marne and the Loire, in search of evocative views to paint. He died in his hometown of Paris in the summer of 1900 at the age of 71.
