Spencer Tunick Biography
Spencer Tunick, American photographer, was born on January 1, 1967 in Middletown. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in 1988, Tunick began photographing naked people on the streets of New York in 1992. He is primarily known for his shots depicting naked people in urban settings, although cases of individual nudity can be found or small groups placed in unusual situations. As part of his project called Naked States, Tunick also took photographs in other locations in the United States, as well as in London, Lyon, Melbourne, Montreal, Caracas, Santiago, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Newcastle, Rome and Vienna. Tunick's work has often sparked discussion and questions due to the nature of his works, which many consider to be a simple "social demonstration" in support of freedom of expression. His images evoke tension and reflection on the concepts of public and private, individual and collective.
