George Turner, born 2 April 1841 in Cromford, was an English landscape painter and farmer. From a young age he demonstrated a great talent for music and art, encouraged by his father Thomas Turner who, although a tailor by profession, was passionate about art. He became a professional painter and art teacher, although he studied self-taught. He specialized in the oil technique, creating bucolic works inspired above all by his area of ​​origin, Derbyshire. He leaves behind a vast collection of hundreds of images of the English countryside, depicting it even before the advent of mechanization and urbanisation. Turner died on 29 March 1910 in Idridgehay.
