Emanuel Ungaro, known as "Monsieur Dentelle", was a French fashion designer born in 1933 in Aix-en-Provence. The son of a tailor from Puglia who emigrated to France, he showed a great passion for fashion since he was a child. He started as an apprentice at Balenciaga's atelier in Paris in 1955. In 1965, together with his partner Sonja Knapp, he opened his first atelier. his style became unmistakable thanks to original combinations of colors and fabric prints. Ungaro stood out with his mini dresses, which went against the grain of the more classic fashion of long evening dresses of those years. Using precious fabrics, he made the clothes more sensual, adding sumptuous baroque-style details such as fine lace. His clothes have been worn by celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Catherine Deneuve and Jackie Kennedy. In 2000, the Ungaro brand expanded, collaborating on the production of eyewear, swimwear and accessories. Ungaro decided to retire from the world of fashion in 2004, and died on December 22, 2019 in Paris.
