Sergio Unia Biography

Sergio Unia was born in Roccaforte Mondovì. At a young age he moved to Turin, where he lives and works. The Turin artistic environment was a stimulus for his education. In 1970 he followed free nude courses at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts. His first solo exhibition was held in Turin in 1971 and since then his work has intensified and perfected, focusing on sculpture, an expressive technique that becomes the center of his interests. More than 130 personal exhibitions will follow in Italy and abroad. In addition to the Villacero Foundation in Monterrey (Mexico), his works are present in public collections in the Aosta Valley and Piedmont, in the Province of Cuneo and Alessandria, in the Municipality of Acqui Terme, in the churches of San Giovanni Bosco in Asti and in Santa Maria di Belveglio, in the square of Dolceacqua, at the Casino of Saint Vincent, at the Diocesan Museum of Susa, in the art galleries of Pinerolo, Gaeta, Guarene and Rubiana, in the Town Hall of Ulzio, at the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti, at the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Cuneo, at the Goldsmiths Association of Valenza, at the Ceramics Museum of Mondovì, in the Sculpture Museum of Santa Maria di Leuca and in the Orsanti Museum in Compiano. He has created works dedicated to sports, political and entertainment figures. In 2002 he created the fountain with children's merry-go-round in Mondovì Breo and in 2007 the monument dedicated to Augusto Manzo in Alba. In 2011 he participated in the 54th edition of the Venice Biennale – Italian Pavilion, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Turin. On 19 March 2013 he was appointed member of the Pontifical Distinguished Academy of Fine Arts and Letters of the Virtuosi at the Pantheon in Rome in the sculptor class.
