Gianni Vagnetti Biography

Vagnetti Gianni (Florence, 1897 - Florence, 1956) Gianni Vagnetti was a painter from Florence, initiated into the study of art thanks to his father. He trained at the free school of the Nude of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and after obtaining the Stibbert Prize, he exhibited at the Florentine Primaverile in 1922. He participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale in 1924 after having exhibited his works in several important Italian and foreign exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, the Rome Quadrennial and the Italian Twentieth Century Exhibitions. In 1927 he created the Twentieth Century Tuscan Group together with other artists. Subsequently he became a teacher of figure and pictorial anatomy at the Royal Art Institute of Porta Romana in Florence. In the following years he spent a lot of time in Paris and then participated for the first time with his own solo show at the Venice Biennale (1932). At the same time as his career as a painter, he began that of a set designer. From 1941 onwards he was part of numerous artistic juries, he won prizes and his works are currently found in important private collections and in Italian and foreign museums in Rome, Turin, Florence and Forlì.
