Daniel van Heil, born in Brussels in 1604, was a Flemish painter specializing in landscapes. He focused on three types of landscapes: fire scenes, ruin landscapes and winter landscapes. Little is known about his life and education, but it is assumed that he studied with his father, who was also a painter. He became a master in the guild of St. Luke in Brussels in 1627. Most of his paintings depict winter landscapes, fires in cities and landscapes with ruins. His winter landscapes were influenced mainly by Breughel the Elder, while his ruin landscapes were in the style of the Flemish Italic landscape painters. He also collaborated with his brother Jan Baptist. He died around 1662.
