Joseph Van Roy Dalì was born on February 17, 1940 in Perpignan, Catalonia. He is a multifaceted figure in the art world, being a painter, sculptor, goldsmith, writer and even a film actor. Born into a family of artists, he is the son of Salvador Dalì Domenech, the famous surrealist master, and the Russian model Elena Deluvina Diakonov, known as Gala. During his adolescence, José was raised by a pair of guardians, as his real parents were constantly traveling around the world due to their business. They therefore decided to entrust him to an Italian family who raised him like their own son. José himself defines himself as an avowed surrealist and, in his numerous memoirs, he often described the difficulties of his early childhood linked mainly to the fame of his father Salvador.
