Carlo Vanzina Biography
Carlo Vanzina, born March 13, 1951 in Rome, was an Italian actor, director, producer, writer, screenwriter and assistant director. Brother of the screenwriter Enrico and son of Stefano Vanzina, he grew up in a culturally and intellectually stimulating environment, characterized by the presence of cinema. He made his debut as a director in 1976, directing the film "Honeymoon in Three". From that moment on, he made more than 40 films, all great successes that also received appreciable consideration from critics. A significant merit of Vanzina is that of having launched characters such as Jerry Calà, Diego Abatantuono and the duo formed by Massimo Boldi and Christian De Sica. In 2012, he received the special ribbon at the Nastri d'Argento in recognition of his career.
It is notable that, every year during the Christmas period, his films or the protagonists of his films become the object of great media attention, occupying covers, articles and television and domestic spaces. At this point, the term "cinepanettone" was coined to define those Italian comedy films that are traditionally released in cinemas at Christmas. Carlo Vanzina died on 8 July 2018 in Rome, at the age of 67.
