Giuseppe Viviani Biography

Pisan painter and engraver, he became professor of engraving at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 1948, which occurred at the ripe age of fifty, before which his skill, especially engraving, was not unknown to city collectors, but which reached national fame only with his university activity under the chair of Giovanni Fattori. There were numerous prizes that he received from his youth to his old age: the prize at the international exhibition in Munich in 1929, the prize for drawing received in Asti in 1949, as well as the most renowned, the first prize for engraving at Venice Biennale of 1950. This was followed in 1951 by the first prize for engraving at the Sao Paulo biennial in Brazil; In 1952 he won first prize at the black and white exhibition in Lugano and the four-year exhibition in Rome. At the next four-yearly exhibition in 1965, the year of his death, a commemorative retrospective was dedicated to him.
