Tamás Waliczky, born in Budapest in 1959, is a painter, illustrator, photographer, animator and new media artist. He began his career creating cartoons, while simultaneously cultivating painting, illustration and photography. His passion for using computers has been evident since 1983. He was a resident artist at the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM) in 1992 and a member of the Institute's research staff from 1993 to 1997. His works have received numerous international awards, including the Golden Nica in 1989 at the Prix Ars Electronica, Linz. His art has been exhibited in several exhibitions around the world, including the Lyon Biennial, ICC Gallery Tokyo and Multimediale Karlsruhe. Waliczky's works are currently part of prestigious public collections, including the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Ludwig Museum in Budapest. In 2019, Waliczky was selected to represent Hungary at the 58th Venice Biennale.
