Robert Watts, born in Burlington on June 14, 1923, trained at the Arts Student League and earned a master's degree in Art History from Columbia University in 1951. He was part of the international Fluxus movement, proving to be a notable professor of Art at Douglass College, Rutgers University, New Jersey, 1953 to 1984. During the 1950s, also at Rutgers University, Watts formed close ties with Allan Kaprow, Geoffrey Hendricks, and Roy Lichtenstein. He also organized, with George Brecht, in the spring of 1963, the proto-Fluxus Festival Yam, of which he became one of the major leaders together with George Maciunas. Robert Watts passed away in Martins Creek on September 2, 1989.
