Rudolf Weber was born on February 26, 1872 in Vienna. He studied art with the painter Anton Brioschi and attended the Staatsgewerbeschule in Vienna as well as the Academy of Fine Arts in the same city under the guidance of Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels. In the beginning, he painted mountain and southern landscapes and regularly presented his works at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. In 1900 he moved to Spitz an der Donau where he concentrated mainly on the representation of the Wachau and the surroundings of Spitz. In 1921, he married the painter Anna Tischler (1881-1955) and moved to Stein an der Donau where he lived until his death. Weber had the opportunity to travel to South Tyrol, Lake Garda and the Adriatic coast. From 1933 he worked in Krems an der Donau and was a member of the Wachauer Künstlerbund. Rudolf Weber mainly painted landscapes, often representing the realistic tradition, and portraits. Alongside watercolours, he also created gouache paintings on paper, but his oil paintings made with a pasty technique and using the palette knife are especially well-known. He died on 15 June 1949 in Krems-Stein.
