Hans Jorgen Wegner Biography
Hans Jørgen Wegner (Tønder, 2 April 1914 – Copenhagen, 26 January 2007) was a Danish designer. The son of a shoemaker from southern Denmark, as a young man he worked as an apprentice to a cabinetmaker. He came to his studies late, and when, starting from 1938, he was employed by the already established architects Erik Møller and Flemming Lassen, who were later joined by Arne Jacobsen, for the construction of the Aarhus town hall, he dealt exclusively with interior design. After other collaborations with Jacobsen, Wegner set up his own business with the help of Børge Mogensen. Fundamental to its commercial success was the combination with the PP Møbler brand, which produced most of its most successful creations. A vast production, especially with regards to seats, which Wegner continued until he was 80 years old.
