Antoni Xaus Compte (Barcelona, ​​1932-2013) was one of the most transgressive and innovative artists of Catalan painting of the late 20th century. Spanish abstract painter and visual artist, he studied at the Lonja school in Barcelona and later in Paris, where he coincided with Saura, Chillida and Tàpies, among others. His works are characterized by the clash of primary colors. He gained international fame starting in 1993, when the most famous event of his entire artistic career took place; the creation of a performance and the drafting of a manifesto on the occasion of the centenary of Modernism. He stayed in room no. 105 of the Estela hotel in Sitges for three days, where he carried out the performance which consisted of painting the entire room without the hotel's consent and the subsequent elaboration of the poster as a way of protest for the conformist conduct of art of the time , with the intention of recovering the spirit of modernism by repudiating the lack of sensitivity.
