Helidon Xhixha is a contemporary artist born in Durres, Albania in December 1970. Xhixha is known for his stainless steel sculptures, which are often cast with other mediums such as marble or brass. Born into a family of artists, Xhixha inherited his interest in Fine Arts and passion for sculpture from his father, who among other things was a state portraitist for the Albanian government. After secondary school, he attended and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, where he was part of a rising period for Albanian art. He then moved to Italy, where he attended the Brera Academy of Art in Milan in 1991. In 1998 Xhixha received a scholarship to Kingston University in London, where he developed printmaking, sculpture and photography techniques. Graduating from the Breran Academy in February 1999 his creations included Murano glass works and stainless steel sculptures using innovative and specialized techniques. He is known for his use of polished stainless steel in his sculptures.
