Eugenio Zampighi, born in Modena in 1859 and died in Maranello in 1944, attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Modena under the guidance of Antonio Simonazzi and began his career as a painter of historical scenes. However, during his studies in Rome and Florence, he developed his artistic language through a series of influences and suggestions. In Rome, Zampighi was influenced by orientalist painting, inspired by the Catalan painter Mariano Fortuny, and gradually began to experiment with scenes with exotic or antiquity settings, often characterized by artifice and forcing. After moving to Florence, Zampighi also dedicated himself to painting rustic and humble interiors. This type of pictorial production brought him many commissions on the international market. Eugenio Zampighi also worked as a teacher at the Modena Academy for many years. He died in Maranello in 1944.
