Francesco Zanin (Nove, 22 June 1824 – Venice, 25 December 1884) was an Italian painter. known for having reproduced and imitated Canaletto's depictions throughout his life. Francesco Zanin, son of Martino il fornasier (baker), was baptized in the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Nove. He attended courses in Architecture, perspective and landscape at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in the two-year period 1849-1850 held by Federico Moja, Francesco Bagnara, and Francesco Lazzari, obtaining excellent grades, exhibiting his works already after the first year in the annual exhibition of the academy with the work entitled Cloister of the monastery. He began copying the paintings of Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In 1866 he presented two of his works representing the Basilica of San Marco to the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti of Genoa and that of Turin, but the criticism was not kind towards him even if his paintings continued to be requested by Italian and foreign collectors , especially those that depicted Venice.
