Zanotta Biography
Founded in 1954, Zanotta (1954 - ) is a historic Italian company for the production of furniture and furnishing elements, one of the major protagonists in the history of Italian design. Since the 1960s, led by founder Aurelio Zanotta, it has conquered the international scene thanks to iconic products from the point of view of both formal and technological innovation, the quality of materials and production processes. The '50s and '60s were years of creativity and research for the furniture and home furnishings sector. Some companies, today leaders in design, understand that they could produce profits and culture at the same time. The product design has always been created with the collaboration of internationally renowned architects and designers such as Achille Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Branzi, Giuseppe Terragni, Carlo Mollino, De Pas - D 'Urbino - Lomazzi, Enzo Mari, Bruno Munari, Alfredo Haberli, Werner Aisslinger, Ross Lovegrove. Many pieces from Zanotta's production have entered the history of design books and are exhibited in the most important museums in the world (MoMA and Metropolitan Museum in New York, George Pompidou Center in Paris, Design Museum in London, Museum of Art and Crafts in Berlin, Vitra Design Museum de Weil am Rhein, Israel Museum in Jerusalem...). Zanotta has received numerous awards and recognitions, including three Compassi D'Oro received: in 1968 for the Guscio shed designed by Roberto Menghi, in 1979 for the Sciangai coat hanger designed by De Pas-D'Urbino-Lomazzi, in 1987 for the Tonietta chair designed by Enzo Mari. Over the years, Zanotta has promoted the development and diffusion of issues related to the design of furnishings and living. Alongside the production activity, therefore, there is an intense cultural promotion of the collection. Zanotta participates every year in countless exhibitions and events in the sectors of Design, Art, Architecture and Fashion. The history of Zanotta is renewed in 2017 in the union with Tecno, launching a common project with the strengthening of commercial strategies at an international level under the guidance of Giuliano Mosconi, President and CEO of the two brands.
