Krzysztof Zanussi Biography
Krzysztof Zanussi is a film and television director born in Warsaw in 1939. He is considered the leader of the "third generation" of Polish filmmakers and began his career making some films for television before directing The Crystal Structure in 1968. The constant themes of his works are the conflict between past and present, the lack of communication, death and the search for values that give meaning to life. Among his most significant works we can mention “Family life” (1971), “Sentieri nella notte” (1979), “The constant” (1980), “Marriage contract” (1980), “From a far country” (1981), “The Year of the Quiet Sun” (1984), winner of the Golden Lion in Venice, “The Touch” (1992), “Persona non grata” (2005), “Foreign Body” (2014). Krzysztof Zanussi is also the author of some theoretical essays on cinema, including “On editing an amateur film” (1968) and “Discourse on an amateur film” (1978), as well as being the author of the autobiographical text “Time to die” (1999; trans. it. 2009).
