Rino Zapparoli Biography

Rino Zapparoli is a painter and engraver born in Sermide (Mantua) in 1938. Self-taught, he began his artistic career very young and exhibited for the first time in 1958 at the extemporaneous exhibition of Brera, followed by the impromptu exhibitions of Polesella and Alfonsine. He continued to participate in group exhibitions and local art exhibitions regularly, until holding his first solo exhibition at the Galleria Il Bulino in Ferrara in 1960. The following year he also exhibited abroad with an exhibition in Saint-Etienne .
In the following years he participated in many solo exhibitions, including those at the Le Muse Gallery in Bologna in 1967, the Malpighi Gallery in Bologna in 1970, the Guercino Gallery in Cento in 1977 and the exhibition in Modena in 1985. Among the most recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition dedicated to him by the Municipality of Finale Emilia in 1990 and those at the Punto Arte Gallery in Modena in 1997 and at Palazzo Pianella in Castelfranco Emilia in 2000.
From the beginning, Zapparoli has tried to continually renew himself in his art, moving from Expressionism inspired by the German art between the two wars of the first part of the 1960s to a more calm painting, from which the themes and contents of everyday life emerge in simple and essential ways. The dominant themes of his painting are the human figure, "things" and the landscape.
Reference bibliography on Zapparoli includes the catalog of the exhibition at the Castello delle Rocche in Finale Emilia in 1990, as well as the catalog of the exhibition at the Sala Polivalente of San Giovanni Dosso in 2002.
