Felice Zennaro Biography
Felice Zennaro, also known by the pseudonym Leppa, was born on 8 October 1833 in Pellestrina, in the province of Venice. He began his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where it is likely that he met Natale Schiavoni. Subsequently, he enrolled at the Brera Academy, where he followed Giuseppe Bertini's lessons. However, his studies were often interrupted due to his voluntary participation in the Wars of Independence against Austria. As evidence of these experiences, he created paintings with patriotic subjects, among which "La Battaglia della Bezzecca" stands out, a work of great emotional impact. In 1865, he presented his work "Turca" in Brera, purchased by the Society of Fine Arts. In 1898, he exhibited the painting "Ingenuity and good heart" in Turin, while two years later he participated in the Milanese exhibition of nineteenth-century Lombard painting, where he presented "First steps". Even his genre subjects are often linked to the Risorgimento epic. Felice Zennaro has also created several portraits: "Self-portrait", "Portrait of Count Francesco Annoni" and "Portrait of Mrs. Cottini". He died in Milan on 7 March 1926.
