Wang Zhen, also known as Wang Yiting, was born in 1867 in Wuxing, Zhejiang Province. He was a prominent businessman and celebrated Chinese artist of the Shanghai School. He used various stage names, including Bailong Shanren. Wang spent most of his life in Shanghai, where he worked both as a banker and as a skilled master calligrapher and painter. His artistic repertoire consisted of paintings of flowers, birds, Buddhist characters and subjects. Wang Zhen has been credited with the authorship of many paintings by the teacher Wu Changshuo, of whom he was a devoted student. Wang Zhen died in Shanghai in 1938.
