Umberto Ziveri (Milan, 1891-1971) was an Italian painter known for his genre scenes and portraits that feature narrative elements. This style was influenced by his teacher Attilio Andreoli. Ziveri can be considered as a typical heir of the post-Scapigliato artistic language.
His works are usually characterized by warm and dense tones. For example, "Grandmother's reading", "The stocking" and "Mending" stand out from other contemporary works with similar subjects for the way in which they appear impervious to any form of minimal modernism, remaining rather linked to a reinterpretation of the modules of Ranzone and Cremona, filtered through the experiences of the painters of the first experiences of the century such as Antonio Ambrogio Alciati and Giuseppe Amisani.
