Department
Operational since 2011, the Department of Design and Decorative Arts of the Twentieth Century offers an accurate search of works ranging from the early twentieth century with the Art Nouveau and Art Déco movements, passing through the post-war years up to what we can today consider contemporary design. The careful selection of names and works is curated by the department manager Luigi Bosa, one of the most accredited figures in the Italian design sector and by Marta Plebani, who has coordinated the department since 2019. No less important is the attention to glass Murano, a sector in which Francesco Toniatti offers his skills as an important expert in Venetian glass manufacturing. In 2023 Gaia Barbieri became part of the team, taking care of cataloging and archiving the lots and drafting the condition reports. Thanks to the important results achieved to date, the department is able to satisfy a constantly evolving taste.
We are specialized in twentieth century italian Decorative Arts , but our interest goes beyond national borders and extends towards France, Germany, England, Brazil and Japan. Always attentive to the provenance and historicity of each lot, we offer a choice of furnishings by the most important designers, without neglecting what have always been considered the minor arts but which for us are the jewel in the crown of the proposal, namely ceramics and glass of Murano.
Among the most important results is the award of €226,800 for the Mesa table by T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, the desk made by the cabinetmaker Giordano Chiesa in Milan and designed by Gio Ponti at €118,340, the important sofa by Luigi Caccia Dominioni from 1956 sold at €108,360, the Fly furniture by Ettore Sottsass for Poltonova at €80,640, the Eldorado jug by Dino Martens sold for €80,640, the Moloch lamp by Gaetano Pesce sold for €75,640.00, together with all the furnishings of Casa Carenza in Padua curated exclusively by Gaetano Pesce and the coffee table by Osvaldo Borsani with back-painted glass by Lucio Fontana sold for €73,200.00.
