A bronze statue portraying Shiva Nataraja Southern India, Tamil Nadu, 16th century
Bronze cast portraying Shiva in his manifestation as a deity of destruction, dancing in the circle of fire, crushing with his right foot the dwarf representing ignorance (Apasmara). The figure is pictured with four arms: the right one in the abhayamudra position and the left one pointing to the foot lifted in the act of dancing, representing liberation, while the secondary hands bear two attributes: the drum and the fire.
