A bull (gav) headed green glazed pottery jug Iran, 12th century
Of moulded fritware with a globular body and finial in the form of a bull (gav), covered with green glaze.
Taurine-headed finials are common in this period, especially in toreutics, and it has been suggested that they are related to astrological symbolism (Toby Falk, Treasure of Islam, exhibition catalogue, New Jersey, 1985, p.233).
