A papier maché lacquer pen case (qalamdan) with calligrapher tools Iran, school of Abu Talib Al Mudarris, 19th century
With curved sides and sliding tray, painted with cusped cartouches on a vegetal decorated ground. The exterior decorated with similar cartouches on a red ground.
In the style of AbuTalib Al Mudarris, some of his works are kept in the Malek museum of Teheran and a similar pencase has been sold at Christie's London, auction 1148, 10 October 2013, lot 106.
