An important wooden sculpture with conspicuous traces of polychrome lacquer with a prevalence of red pigment, depicting the Bodhisattva of compassion Guanyin.
The finely carved figure in semi-soft wood is shown here in a rare posture.
In spite of the canonical iconography, the deity is represented seated in paryanka on a mobile base with a single lotus flower. The right hand in varadamudra and the left one in jnanamudra.
The whole figure is embellished with soft draperies that cover both shoulders and legs, furthermore the face, with soft and hieratic features, is surmounted by a high and complex hairstyle and a crown in the center of which the Buddha Amitabha is represented in a standing posture.
