This bureau is a typical example of Lombard cabinetmaking from the mid-18th century, characteristic of the so-called "sarcophagus" or "urn" type due to the upper part which refers, in its connection in a small upper section, to the shape of the ancient funeral arks. Distinctive of the Lombard manufacture of the mid-century are also the refined veneers of the surface, with subtle and delicate transitions from walnut to briar, defined by elegant and sober profile moldings, in some cases ebonized.
