Auction 365 | AFRICA, OCEANIA & AMERICA - ARTE AFRICANA Traditional
Lot 131
The Omakipa, or ivory buttons, were sewn at the Cuanhama of Namibia in various numbers on leather belts worn by women about to marry and represented the heads of cattle brought as a dowry to the future groom.
This example of Omakipa, of beautiful size and workmanship, has been decorated at the edge with black geometric engravings that over time have absorbed part of the brownish red color of the leather on which they were applied. Colouration particularly evident at the back where there are two holes.
Several chippings on the edges testify to the wear and originality of this object.
Beautiful glossy patina and typical ivory pattern.

Accompanied by CITES certificate.
Measures: 7.0 x 6.0 x 2.0 cm
