Traditional headdress of Yao or one of the many ethnic groups inhabiting the vast area from Yunnan in southern China to the entire Golden Triangle.
Skilfully crafted from finely woven fibres and adorned with poor but chromatically effective materials, such as seeds of various shapes and sizes, metal bomb discs, engraved bones, multicoloured plumes and two Chinese aluminium coins, this modest rural headdress (when compared to the more flamboyant and ostentatious headdresses of the neighbouring MIao) is in its own right a valuable ethnographic testimony of a particular area of Asia famous for its cultural diversity.
