ASTA 193 - FINE CHINESE, ASIAN & ISLAMIC WORKS OF ART
Lot 386
This lot is composed by four refined Safavid era miniatures which accompany the famous Diwan by the poet Hafez, written on the back of each painting. The miniatures illustrate the text and represent repectively: the tale of Shirin and Fahrad; two polo players; and two convivial scenes. There are a lot of stamps on the paintings, therefore it is clear that somebody else have found and collected them. We can recognize the names of some of the previous owners, like Sam Ibn Reza Gholi, Karimdad and one tughra (the seal of Ottoman Sultans), which reveals that at least two of these pages came from Ottoman libraries.
