Within the sphere of Baule sculpture, great importance was given to the wooden statuettes of the Bride and Groom of the Other World, Blolo Bian the male and Blolo the female. These sculptures were carved and given as gifts from the husband to the wife and vice versa and represented the couple coming together as an ideal couple in a parallel life, free of pain and suffering, where the newlyweds, beautiful and young, lived happily in joy and well-being.
