Auction 390 | AFRICA, OCEANIA & AMERICA - ARTE AFRICANA, OCEANICA E DELLE AMERICHE Online
Lot 41
An insignia of rank in the shape of a hare's head or rabbit, used in all probability resting on the shoulder to indicate the high rank of the dignitary who wore it, as in our cities the mayor wears the tricolour sash during official ceremonies.
Beautiful for synthesis, the eyes nose and mouth have been resolved by the sculptor with just two circles, four points and a line, in perfect proportion and balance.
The ears are well elaborated and detailed both because they characterise the animal depicted and because they are particularly effective as a cutting part in confrontation or defence and a valid alternative to the blunt part of the muzzle.
Beautiful patina with numerous signs of use.
Measures: 69.0 x 14.5 x 5.5 cm
Starting price: € 300,00
Estimate: € 500,00 - 700,00
