Mali - Dogon Black monkey mask. Hardwood with dark patina, bitumen and pigments, animal hair and fiber. Defects and signs of use.
Beautiful and powerful mask of black monkey Dogon, characterized by long face and nose, domed forehead , triangular eyes and wide and open mouth colored red. Inside visible the holes that contained the teeth now missing.
With animal hairs around the low perimeter of the face and painted with natural pigments and bitumen that enhance the espessivity, this Dogon mask deserves a privileged place within the pantheon of African primary sculpture.
