Arte Africana
Nigeria, Yoruba Oshe Shango divinatory and dance instrument. Wood with traces of pigments and worship. First half 20th century.
Important devotee figure with the double axe on his head symbolising Shago.
Like other representations of natural powers or deification of mythical kings, Shango is the most important of all.
He is the god of thunder and fultime and a legendary warrior founder of the Yoruba lineage.
