The two pink sandstone Gandharva figures from central India probably Madhya Pradesh are depicted in a flying posture with the left leg bent backwards. Both wear a short loincloth cinched at the waist, their naked torsos are embellished with necklaces and bands framing their chests. The earlobes are adorned with large disc earrings, the is serene, the hair neatly tied with a knotted cord.
Gandharva are celestial beings in Hindu mythology, occupying a hierarchical place between gods and men, often associated with music, dance and song.
