Lot 2
Signature lower left. Fortunato Depero Archive, Rovereto, authenticity certificate. Circa 1940.
"Towards 1940, after some previous occasional collaborations, Depero was commissioned to create a series of panels and models in buxus (called "dioramas") to be placed in the foreign representation offices of the Italian Tourist Board (ENIT). In reality Depero had already had some contacts and, even before the actual assignment, he had started working on them. The theme of these panels was that of the popular costumes of the Italian regions, and Depero created the final paintings for a group of "common women" in typical local costumes , mostly full-length, and even some half-length, like the present one which should refer to a typical Campanian costume."
