Tilt table, or flip-top table, became popular in the 19th century as the means to conserve space when folded and placed against a wall. When positioned in this vertical manner, their top surfaces served as canvases that added a decorative element to a room. Gallé adorned his tilt-tops with veneered vignettes of Nature
