Two wooden low nest tables China, Qing dynasty, 19th century
Two quadrangular tables in hard wood, perhaps Huali with a dark patina. The legs are rolled to evoke paper scrolls and the different sizes allow the two pieces to fit inside each other. This type of furniture, created to decorate the study of a calligrapher, is characterized by the extreme technical virtuosity with which it is made and by the elegance of the design.
