Augusto Baracchi Biography
Born in Modena on 28 February 1878, died in Milan on 4 August 1942. He followed courses at the Modena Institute, a student of Salvatore Postiglione. His activity was dedicated to drypoint etching and aquatint. His works achieved good critical and public success and are scattered almost everywhere. He has exhibited in Rome, Paris, Berlin, Athens, Chicago. He was awarded an award at the 1930 Venice Biennale. Works: "Goats" (drypoint), of which a copy is in the National Library of Paris: "Chiesetta bianca"; "Poor Streets"; "Piazza Rovetta"; "The house of LA Muratori" copy at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence; "The cathedral of Modena"; "The Tirso dam"; "Construction of the Cignana dam"; "Construction of the Pavona dam"; "Barrier at the Piave"; "Cismon Dam"; "Lago di Santa Croce", which were awarded at the XVII Venice Biennale. Many views of Assisi exhibited at the International Franciscan Exhibition in 1927 were awarded prizes. He made over two hundred plates, some in large format and in colour. He has works in public galleries: in Florence (Uffizi), Rome, Turin, Milan, Modena, Brescia, Piacenza, Tokyo, Newark (USA). The Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery in Piacenza preserves his paintings Arch of Constantine in Rome and Ponte Vecchio in Florence. His painting Portrait of Cesare, Sara and Luigi Carozzi is in the Art Collections of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan.
