Floriano Bodini (Gemonio, 1933 - Milan, 2005). During his adolescence he attended artistic studies in Milan and chose to conclude his education at the Brera Academy. Towards the mid-1950s he joined the Milanese group of Existential Realism, in which young and famous artists participated. His portrait production expresses existential discomfort and melancholy which he translates into powerful expressive and dramatic force, imprinted in the faces of his sculptures. In 1962 he participated in the Venice Biennale and in 1968 he exhibited the sculpture Portrait of a Pope, which was placed inside the Vatican museums. He began teaching at the Liceo Artistico and the Brera Academy from a young age. Until 1987 he was director of the Carrara Academy. From 1987 to 1998 he held the chair of sculpture at the Darmstadt Architecture Polytechnic. The materials he uses to sculpt are preferably wood and bronze, but later he will consider marble.
