Franco Borsi Biography
Franco Borsi (1925-2008) is a leading figure in Italian architecture, also known abroad. Having graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, he has attended Giovanni Michelucci's studio since 1945. After playing one internship professional in Norway, Borsi moved to Rome, where he specialized in interior architecture, in particular of the nightclubs in the Via Veneto area ( George's , White Elephant , Café de Paris ) which have become symbolic places of sweet life . In the early 1960s, he taught at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, where he became full professor of architectural history and was involved in the establishment of the Institute of Architecture History (later the Department). At the end of the 1960s he began working as a technical consultant to Parliament, participating in architectural undertakings and restorations. He writes scientific essays, characterized by novelty and critical freedom, which establish themselves internationally. Among the studies on Italian architecture of the twentieth century, the numerous contributions on Giovanni Michelucci should be remembered. No less important are the volumes on Leon Battista Alberti, Bernini and Bramante. Alongside his intense teaching and architectural historian activity, Franco Borsi also works as a promoter and organizer of major events, such as the exhibition Florence and the Tuscany of the Medici in sixteenth-century Europe (Florence, October 1974 - May 1975), and numerous international scientific conferences. In 1974 he was a consultant to Giovanni Spadolini in the founding phase of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. He passed away at the age of 83.
