Giuseppe Boschi Biography

Giuseppe Boschi was born in Rome around 1760 and little is known about his life before 1783, the year in which he won first prize in the second sculpture class of the Academy of Sant'Orsola with a relief entitled "Abraham in adoration of the three angels" , still preserved today in the Academy's collections. This work demonstrates his skill as a modeler in a late Baroque style with neoclassical influences.
The subsequent production of bronze statuettes will make him famous. Part of these pieces consists of small reproductions of ancient statues and busts.
Like many other makers of bronze statuettes in Rome, Boschi was also a goldsmith: in 1792 he worked at the goldsmiths' university.
Among his most important bronzes are Mercury and Hebe, both reproductions of works by Giambologna and Canova.
In 1805 he was admitted to the Congregation of San Giuseppe dei Virtuosi del Pantheon. We know from the list of members that Boschi was still alive in 1821.
