Active in Rome since 1738, Giuseppe Boschi became famous for his models deriving from the classical taste and from the Grand Tour taste, in the wake of Righetti and Valadier. Among the main promoters of Boschi's creations was the British architect Charles Tatham, with whom a fruitful collaboration was established that led to the commission of several candelabra for Carlton House. Of the same type, see, among others, a pair in gilt bronze and rosso antico marble preserved in Palazzo Pitti, Florence (A. Gonzalez-Palacios, "Il Tempio del Gusto", Milan 1984, fig. 283). The model turns out to be a variation of the Newdigate candelabra, restored by Piranesi and now at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
